Islamic University of Gaza won the APPEAR funded project Strengthening Higher Education Capacities in Palestine for Women and Gender Equality

IUG won the APPEAR funded project ‘Strengthening Higher Education Capacities in Palestine for Women and Gender Equality’ in partnership with University of Graz in Austria.  The activities of this project will be carried out by a specialized team which includes: Prof. Sanaa Abou-Dagga, Dr. Khetam Sahar, Dr. Manal Ashi, and Eng. Amani Maqadma.

Designed for a period of three years, the project aims at staff development, research development and curriculum development  in the field of Women and Gender Equality. In addition, it aims at promoting awareness of women issues locally and internationally while building up connectively on a local and a global level.

The expected outcomes of this project include: IUG staff development through a one year module in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies (16 ECTS), curriculum development through developing MA level courses in Women and Gender studies and developing the curriculum ‘Human Rights’ course so it would include parts about women’s rights and gender equality. It’s also expected to result in developing a library specialized in women's issues (In Arabic and English), and in developing research in gender issues where project staff from IUG and Uni- Graz will supervise MA students from both universities who are simultaneously studying the same topics. Its results will include the establishment of a Women’s and Gender Studies Centre by the beginning of the 2nd year in order to start functioning and leading activities and spreading social awareness in high education institutions through lectures.
