The Women's Studies Center WSC at Faculty of Education at the Islamic University, IUG, held two lectures from the series of qualitative research methodologies lectures (qualitative research); such that, the first lecture was a preliminary one, entitled: “Introduction to Gender research methodologies", and the 2nd lecture titled "Narrative Analysis". The two lectures were organized in collaboration with university of Graz, UniGraz, students within the framework of the She-Ge project. The two lectures were provided by Prof. Libora Oates-Indruchová, professor of Sociology at university of Graz and Prof. Corinne Squire, Professor of Social Sciences and Co-Director, Centre for Narrative Research at University of East London (UEL) respectively.
The two lectures were attended by senior staff members including Prof. Elyan AL Holy, Vice President for academic Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim AL Astal, Dean of faculty of Education, Dr. Anwar Abadsa, deputy dean, in addition to the She-Ge staff namely, Prof. Sanaa Aboudgha, the project manager, Ms. Amani Al Mqadma- project assistant manager and Ms. Reem AL Afifi - project coordinator, the WSC director, Dr. Somya Sayma in addition to academic staff members from different faculties and Ministry of Women affairs.
In her lecture, Prof. Libora Oates-Indruchová addressed the issues of the difference between epistemology, method and methodology, the contribution of feminist research to qualitative inquiry and the overall principles of feminist methodologies.
Whereas, Prof. Corinne Squire, started her lecture with the definition of narrative research which concentrates on signs that follow each other and that build human meaning and how it can be sequences in time, space, or of causation. Then she mentioned the approaches to perform the narrative analysis, by analyzing: narrative structure, content and finally the narrative context.
The two Professors used different videos and working papers to illustrate the content of the lectures and give the participants opportunity to reflect on from the lectures.
The lectures were organized as a full day events starting from 10: 00 am till 4: 00 pm Gaza time. The first two hours were devoted to lecturing, whereas the remaining were devoted to questions and group discussions from the UniGraz students as well as participants at IUG.
